Consider a logo design in different shapes/variations—stacked (vertical), landscape (horizontal), and icon (or brand marks, submarks, or symbol)—so that you can place it on a billboard, website, social media page, and more. 

PNG is the best file type for a logo and is excellent for web uses, websites, and social media because it supports transparency. Just remember not to go over 200KB for fast load times. 

Vector files (SVG, PDF) are valuable for scalability. They can be resized or reformatted to PNGs or JPGs - without losing quality. You can create them in Adobe Illustrator and convert them into the file format you need. 

Pixels refer to dimensions in width and height (e.g., 500 x 500 px), and bytes are file sizes: kilobytes (KB), megabytes (MB), and gigabytes (GB). What appears on the screen is “resolution” (total number of pixels).  

Meanwhile, PPI (pixels per inch or pixel density) is the number of pixels that appear per inch, measuring an image’s quality. The higher its value, the more precise the image will be.

TIP 

We recommend PNG files for social media posting! These files support transparency and are higher quality than JPEGs (JPEGs are good for photos, but for social media logos? No).

Your logo must be formatted appropriately whenever you print it for advertising or merchandise

Use an SVG file, which retains its quality whether you upsize or downsize it. Different logo variations are valuable, allowing you to format it per channel or space. 

And remember, digital formats use red, blue, and green (RGB), while print uses cyan, magenta, yellow, and black (CMYK). We recommend CMYK in logo design because it can be easily converted to RGB.
